Netflix has given fans of the original Star Wars franchise a new and exciting way to watch its newest blockbuster in space with the release of Star Wars (Space Force) and Star Wars Episode IX: The Last Jedi, in theaters nationwide on December 15, 2019.
The Star Wars films, written by screenwriter and executive producer J.J. Abrams, take place in a galaxy far, far away where Jedi Masters Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader lead a resistance against the evil Galactic Empire.
The original Star Empire is now in the process of being reborn.
The new movies are a sequel to Star Wars’ original trilogy, The Force Unleashed, which Abrams also wrote and produced.
The first two movies were the first installment in the series that starred Carrie Fisher and Adam Driver.
Abrams directed the first two films.
“Space Force” takes place in the same universe as the original trilogy.
It follows a group of Resistance fighters fighting to save the galaxy from the Galactic Empire and to save their friends and families from the dark side of the Force.
They also face off against a new species of deadly alien life forms called the Space Monitors.
“The Last Jedi” follows a Resistance group led by Poe Dameron who, despite being a Jedi, has to battle his former mentor Luke Skywalker, the Dark Lord of the Sith, who has taken over the galaxy and who wants to use the dark powers of the dark sides to bring about his own demise.
The first Star Wars film, Star Force, grossed $1.8 billion worldwide, the highest worldwide gross of any movie, and the franchise is still the biggest in history with a $3.3 billion global total.
In a tweet, Abrams said, “Space Force is the perfect sequel for us to continue the story of Luke Skywalker as he tries to make sense of his fate and save his people. #Rebels”
