NHL trade: Coyotes to send Chris Stewart, Ryan Whitney, Mike Cammalleri to Columbus for Joel Ward, Sam Gagner
The Columbus Blue Jackets have agreed to send defenseman Chris Stewart and forward Ryan Whitney to Columbus in exchange for forward Joel Ward and defenseman Sam Gagnon, NHL.com’s Pierre LeBrun and Andy Strickland reported.
The trade is the first of what could be several moves that could occur in the near future.
The Blue Jackets also have an option to send forward Sam Gagne, a 2017 third-round pick, to Columbus if they decide to move forward with their own pick.
Ward, 22, is entering his third season with Columbus and has two goals and four assists in 19 games this season.
Whitney, 22 and the team’s fourth-leading scorer with 21 points, has seven goals and 22 assists in 49 games this year.
Cammalleria, 21, has six goals and 16 assists in 41 games.
