The American Space Exploration Association said on Tuesday that the industry needs to take steps to better support the U.S. military’s growing efforts in space.
“The current environment is challenging for all sectors, and we need to get our priorities right,” said Michael Coates, the association’s executive director.
The association said that the space sector is currently operating at a $1.3 billion loss, and that a new space exploration law, which is currently under consideration by Congress, would help the industry grow and support military operations.
Space companies are looking for ways to boost revenue as they prepare to launch their next mission to Mars.
But that won’t be easy, as there is no way to track what the next mission will look like.
The space industry has been fighting a losing battle against the federal government since it started working on the commercial space industry in 1979, Coates said.
Companies such as SpaceX, Blue Origin, Orbital ATK and Sierra Nevada Corp. have all faced regulatory scrutiny and have lost funding due to federal regulations and competition.
The new space law, however, could help the space economy.
The law would allow companies to receive government assistance for research and development, including space travel.
The bill would also allow the military to work on a new generation of rockets and spacecraft.
It is estimated that there are as many as 30,000 jobs in space and the space industries employs about 500,000 people, according to a July 2017 report by the U,S.
Government Accountability Office.
That’s up from about 400,000 in the 1970s.
